Thanks to blogger Grace Beckett for this guest post…
Blog writing, like all other creative writing, requires originality. But even professional writers suffer days when lack of inspiration for an author blog post is felt dearly. This is felt more by freelancing blog writers as they need to come up with new and interesting topics to write on every day so that they are able to pull and retain readers to their respective sites.
First remedy is to keep your cool. Lack of inspiration happens to a lot of writers and for some, it happens a lot. But you need to at least try to pick yourself up from this state and start writing. Here are a few tips on how you can find inspiration for your author blog posts:
The simplest post ever: Blog readers love to be reminded things. Start by making a list that you know readers from your niche will love to read. You can either take a topic and rewrite on it or can prepare a list of interesting blogs and use it as a post. See how simple it can be to still come up with posts on a day that seemed so lost.
Inspiration from others: As mentioned above copying ideas is not a good habit, but reading other bloggers’ articles can be a great way to get inspiration. Feed reader comes very handy in such a situation. Read on a regular basis what other bloggers in your field are up to. You need not take ideas from them but you can always add or contradict if you do not agree with anyone’s particular statement. In no time at all you will have ideas to write a blog yourself.
Take a friend’s help: Now, if you are a serious blogger and take writing as a professional choice you are bound to have friends who write, too. Call them, ask for their suggestions. You never know within a conversation what ideas may spark you to write. Just remember that there is no shame in accepting your current state as no matter what others say, similar situations are faced by all writers at some point or the other.
Try things you have never done before: If you have never tried blogging on a video or a picture you can surely try doing that. Find interesting pictures and videos related to your field of writing. It’s okay to use videos and pictures from other sources to write an article on if used with permission and credited. Paste the picture or video and write a few words on it, and just like that your blog of the day is ready without much effort.
Last resort: If you still find it impossible to write on something, blog on the fact that it’s bothering you. If you are a regular blogger and have a regular viewership, your readers will surely enjoy reading about you once in a while. But don’t wait for this situation to arise. On one of the better days when you’re flowing with ideas, keep a list ready for days like this.

Timely post! Just as my head is empty of ideas for my weekly blog, you’ve given me a few to gnaw on. Thanks 🙂
Oh, good – can you gnaw on a few for me, too?!
I like to keep a running list of topics to write about. Ideas seem to come at various times and if I don’t write the idea down when it comes to me, I’m inclined to forget about it.
Absolutely – we keep a folder of ’em – but sometimes even looking at an item on the list can be daunting, eh?
