So you’ve been told you need a website, and you do (it’s today’s modern-day business card, after all). But what needs to be there once you’ve got one?
Let’s break it down! Here are all the pertinent items you need/want to include in your author website. If you’re not yet published, some of these items won’t yet apply and can easily be added later…
- The Book(s):
- Titles
- Cover graphics and/or relevant subject matter pics
- Synopsis
- Sample pages/chapter
- Book Club Qs
- Other writings:
- Links to published articles/essays/stories
- Samples of work (can be other pages or link to pdfs)
- Author bio:
- Anecdotal bio – a brief “story of you”
- CV – usually a downloadable pdf
- Photos/albums/gallery (optional – fun if relevant)
- Online Media Kit(links to a downloadable pdf)
- Brief (can fall under books and bio)
- Include CV/writing resume
- Book synopsis and/or blurbs
- Include sample pages (if appropriate)
- Include media contact info for interviews, book club appearances, conferences, etc.
- News (Some authors incorporate this with their blog):
- Reviews of you and/or your work – captures and links to full articles…
- Links to topics of relevance to your project
- Miscellaneous cool links (i.e. if you blog elsewhere, etc.)
- Special appearance announcements
- Award/honors announcements
- Appearances:
- Schedule of where and when you’ll be appearing, including book signings, conferences, clubs, etc.
- Info on appearance types (i.e. talks, book clubs, clinics)
- Info on how someone can contact you for appearance
- Contact:
- Author contact
- Publicist contact
- Agent/publisher contacts (if appropriate)
- Links to relevant social media relevant / author name
- BLOG (each author should have one – links there as well)
