DoubleDealerThe Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society of New Orleans has released its 2013 online edition of the The Double Dealer, just in time for the Society’s Words & Music: A Literary Feast in New Orleans that begins this Wednesday, December 5, at the famed literary landmark Hotel Monteleone!

The Double Dealer, the Society’s literary journal, was created in the image of the 1920s and 30s Double Dealer, a New Orleans journal, which was first publisher of the work of William Faulkner and the early work of such important authors as Ernest Hemingway.

The original Double Dealer was founded by Albert Goldstein, Julius Weiss Friend, John McClure, and Basil Thompson, with the assistance of a dedicated group of Louisiana guarantors, who were tired of hearing the South described as a literary backwater by Eastern Establishment critics, including notably H. L. Menken (who became a cheerleader for the journal). The Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society’s goals in re-establishing the journal were to provide a forum for showcasing developing writers alongside established authors, and to provide a resource for teachers of English, literature, and creative writing.

The 2013 edition of The Double Dealer is a whopping 440 pages packed full of essays, articles, and writings from 2012 and 2013 Faulkner-Wisdom Creative Writing competition winners, plus a full schedule of events for this week’s festival in New Orleans. WWW’s Shari Stauch, on the advisory council of the Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society, is an associate editor of the annual publication.

Access to the online edition is free. CLICK HERE or on the cover above begin reading now!
