An author’ online media kit is a PDF document that an author can build or have custom built (WWW includes them with our website packages) that contains more info about you that can be easily downloaded. It’s what we call “you in a suitcase.”
You can attach the pdf to an email whenever a journalist asks for more information about you, and have it available as a link download from your web page, typically linked at your Bio, About the Book, and Contact pages.
The benefit of having an online media kit is twofold:
A. You’ll have the info at your fingertips the moment it’s requested.
B. Anyone looking to take more info about you with them can easily download the kit.
Your media kit should include:
- Author name and contact info (along with publicist if applicable)
- Links throughout the pdf so even when downloaded folks can link to your website, your email, your social media and/or to the buy-it-now landing page of your book.
- Name of your book (working title if unpublished) and a representative graphic or cover photo
- Book description/synopsis and/or sample pages/chapter
- About you: Relevant bio information that lets a reader/journalist learn more about you and why you’re uniquely qualified to write this book(s)
Additional items you may want to include in your media kit:
- Relevant photos of you
- CV or resume (just the highlights of your career achievements)
- Writing awards
- Anything else you feel is valuable to tell the story of you and your work!
The point of any media kit is to showcase YOU and YOUR WORK for the benefit of journalists and even perhaps potential speaking/booksigning events. It must be designed to set you apart from the pack and to be easily read and understood by busy staff, and should be artistic to express your creativity, yet clean and simple for those who want to download and print.
Visit our Client Sites page to see the websites and media kits of many of our clients, who have each used different strengths to help tell their individual stories.
