In response to so many authors taking matters into their own hands these days, Bowker, the agency that writers and publishers use to register for an International Standard Book Number (or ISBN) for their book, has launched a new site. Besides offering up why an ISBN matters and how to get your ISBN, Bowker’s Self Published Author site is featuring:
- industry advice and perspective, giving you an inside scoop on the business
- referral to partners who can help convert your ebook
- events specifically for self-published authors
An example of fun info on the site, offered from their The Book Consumer In 2012:
- In the first 10 months of 2012, self-published titles accounted for 3% of total market share in units and 1% of dollars spent.
- 74% of self-published ebooks purchased were adult fiction, 23% of which were Romance. Just 9% of self-published books were children’s titles.
- 58% of self-published books were bought for less than $1.
Note: While we saw a lot of great info at this site, we also noticed they were selling QR codes for $25. You don’t need to spend it; you can easily and quickly create your own for FREE in a matter of seconds at many websites; just Google “free qr code generator” and choose from a number of results.
Happy Memorial Day

To those of you in the military now, as well as friends and family of our military men and women, we’d like to pause for a moment for you, too, to thank you for your service.
