readwave_full_logoReadWave.com is an interesting new author platform brought to our attention by one of our clients, author Lynne Marie. The London-based company enables writers to build up a global readership for their stories. According to CEO and co-founder Raoul Tawadey, “In the past month alone, 40,000 stories have been read on ReadWave.”

The service is free to authors; ReadWave simply works by giving readers a place to read excerpts of your books and short stories before buying them. Said Tawadey, “Our reading widget enables you to embed your stories from ReadWave onto your personal website, and bloggers to embed them onto their blogs, thereby helping to increase your readership.”

The site makes it super easy to upload content; the widget idea is cool (you can imbed a story on your author blog just by clicking the green “imbed” button); and the look of the site (see below) is very “Pinterest” — hip and fun, where readers can like the stories and weigh in with comments. In short, this one could catch on, authors!

The following six tips from the Readwave.com website can help you build your readership:

  1. Short and Sweet: Even if your magnum opus is a six hundred page novel, you’d be better off by publishing a few short stories first, just to build up your ReadWave fanbase. We’ve found that readers prefer to read short stories from authors they don’t know, before exploring their longer works – so it is recommended that you start by publishing short stories on ReadWave.
  2. A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words: When you upload your story, remember to upload a captivating, interesting and emotive picture as cover art. Readers are more than five times likely to start reading stories with interesting pictures than those without.
  3. Share your Story: When you publish your story on ReadWave you have the option to share via Facebook, Twitter and email.
