With 80 million monthly readers and 40 million books and documents on Scribd.com โ Scribd would seem to be a necessary place to make sure your book is seen.
What is Scribd
Scribd is a personal digital library, where you have unlimited access to the worldโs largest collection of e-books and written works. The site’s premium subscription service ($8.99 a month) offers over 300,000 books from over 900 publishers. They include lots of New York Times bestsellers, literary classics, and groundbreaking non-fiction. They also include reader favorites in every genre.
More: They also have millions of user-uploaded written works. These vary from landmark court filings to academic papers to brochures and presentations. You can upload your own work with a click of a button. Perhaps you may consider adding a preview of your newest work?
The service is compatible with iPhone, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire, and any web browser. And it allows you to download books to read anywhere. You can even download to read documents offline.
Scribd Author Advantages
The platform offers authors exposure to an established audience of 80 million monthly readers around the globe. They help authors and publishers reach more readers.
While Scribd subscribers enjoy unlimited books for a flat monthly fee, they pay publishers when a book is read. It’s as if the subscriber had bought it in a retail e-book store. Authors are paid according to their agreements with their publisher. (Smashwords authors can take advantage of the partnership Scribd has with their authors, too.)

Has Scribd alluded to any changes regarding their past behavior? It seems authors should be aware of past practices, which may still be carried over to today. Thanks!

Funny you should ask — we’ve been holding off on blogging about benefits of Scribd. Then this piece in the Digital Reader ran 2 days ago: http://www.the-digital-reader.com/2014/05/12/smashwords-details-scribds-new-anti-piracy-efforts/#.U3MBsy-0aLU
I can imagine this may continue to be a challenge when users can upload content. Do believe though that Scribd has attempted to be responsive and does have a model that can attract more readers to more books. Time will tell and we’re watching too ๐
Speaking from personal experience, with several glitches ( http://felipeadanlerma.com/2014/04/16/scribd-one-month-later-57-uploads-problems-fixes-and-expectations/ ) I am extremely satisfied with the author support I’ve received from Scribd.
Though there’s still questions to be answered, esp in regard to sales reporting (and that seems very hopeful), so far I’d say the effort has been worth while. I found it’s good to be in touch with their support staff, who have been exceptional.
Best wishes, for all of us! ๐
Thanks, Felipe — good info to know!
