585px-JohnHancocksSignature_svgYour email signature at the bottom of every email you send is your opportunity to leave a lasting impression. Yet, it’s one of the most overlooked ways of easily marketing yourself!

Here are few tips for an email signature tune-up. It’s important to sign off with:

  • Your Name
  • Your Email (don’t assume folks will look at the address line to find it)
  • The Name of Your Book (and a tiny image if appropriate)
  • Your author website! This should be a “duh” but you’d be surprised how many authors don’t bother to link their emails to their website or blog, and you definitely want to drive your audience there!
  • The Most Pertinent Social Media Sites to That Audience. You don’t need to list every site for every email (in fact, current marketing wisdom says that may be overwhelming for readers), but if you’re emailing to fans, you may want to include the link to your Goodreads Author page and your Twitter page; if emailing a potential store for a booksigning, perhaps your Linked In profile and/or your Facebook page.

So, authors, show us YOUR email sign-offs with your comments below so we can all come visit you!

    Hi Shari,

The bottom of our email is valuable real estate. It’s not only a chance to promote our work, but also to extend special greetings and messages throughout the year. I like using a free tool, Wisestamp, to do that. It allows you to include images, links, social media icons, etc.

Today, in addition to my regular email signature, I’m also using it to wish my paternal grandpa Happy Father’s Day with his photo and a greeting.

Wonderful and great note on the personal touch — even for readers – they want to know YOU! (That’s why readers go to booksignings, eh?) Enjoy your Father’s Day Flora and thanks for weighing in!

Yeah, like it Fiona! Tells me more of “your story” and your body of work, especially linking to your Amazon author page. Well done!
