video-marketing-for-authorsIt’s no secret that video book trailers are here to stay. We’ve worked with clients that have spent upwards of $2,000 on a trailer, and others who’ve only spent a few hundred. At what point (and price point) does a book trailer make sense for your work?

I wasn’t completely convinced about the validity of book trailers to sell books, though I’d seen a few very well produced trailers that had me wavering, mostly live action, expensive productions. And PJ Productions on the WWW team has served the live action market for those authors with the budget to go that route.

So, the conclusion has been, when asked, that trailers are a great option IF the author has the budget for them. They can infuse a website with excitement and action, be shared on YouTube and other social media, etc.

But we thought it’d be great if we also found a satisfactory, realistic option for authors with wee budgets. And that’s when I ran into a GEM of a video producer through a couple authors I met while speaking at the 2013 Florida Writers conference.

Here was a company producing cost-effective trailers, with customized matching music that makes all the difference… more like watching a sophisticated movie trailer. Watching Evan Staley’s videos actually made me WANT TO READ THE BOOKS!

But, ever the cynic, I didn’t want to only trust my opinion, so I took to “the streets” and began informally polling other clients, and lots of readers. I showed them several samples. They, like me, oohed and ahhed. But better still, they said, “Oh, I have to read that book.”

Several ordered one (or more) of the books right from their devices after seeing the book trailers. And I clapped and shouted, “YES!” Because that’s exactly what a book trailer is supposed to do. (We’ve included a couple of sample videos below; feel free to share your thoughts.)

Evan Head ShotSo without further ado, we’d like to welcome aboard the newest member of the WWW collaborative team, Evan Staley! And, at the risk of sounding like one of those awful TV infomercials, there’s more. Evan is offering an unbelievable price to our tribe of just $225. AND, if you’re a member of the Winner Circle, just $175 – $50 off!

Evan Staley is the creator of Evan W. Staley Films (ewsfilms.com), a production team that focuses on a wide range of video products, from book trailers and commercials to music videos and short films. For the past two years he has been producing book trailers for publishers and authors around the U.S., and he truly believes that the synthesis between writing and film/television can be a powerful and inspirational combination.

Evan looks forward to working hand in hand with WWW’s talented authors to help them market their work.

Impressive! I wonder what can be done for my seafaring novel, Tropic Squall, published by BQB Publishers and available on line and through bookstores.

Thank you! I try my best to make everything affordable – thought it can be difficult. Especially in these industries!

Love it when people expand their concept of marketing! Began working on the trailer for my book this past week. Need not cost a lot. We have more resources than what we think – great locations, views, or landscapes within your city, and friends with particular talents/skills that may be willing to help.
